One shot, triple protection.
Flu vaccines for the 2012-2013 season will include two new strains and retain only one of the three strains used in the vaccine for the past two seasons, according to the recommendation from the FDA:
  • an A/California/7/2009 (H1N1)-like virus;
  • an A/Perth/16/2009 (H3N2)-like virus;* and
  • a B/Brisbane/60/2008-like virus.

    • *Note: A/Wisconsin/15/2009 and A/Victoria/210/2009 are A/Perth/16/2009-like viruses. There will be no residual protection from the 2010 flu shot. To be protected for 2011 flu season another shot is required.
